Hazardous Materials & Compliance (Germany/EU)

Your safety is our priority. At Art Paint Shop, we strictly adhere to the European Union’s REACH Regulation and the CLP Regulation (EC No 1272/2008). These frameworks ensure that every product we stock is analyzed for human health and environmental impact.

EU & International Safety Seals

ACMI AP Seal: Certified non-toxic by medical experts (ASTM D-4236).
CL Seal (Caution Label): Materials contain hazardous ingredients but can be used safely with appropriate caution.

Note: These products should only be handled by individuals capable of understanding safety instructions provided on the packaging.

Classroom & Institutional Use

For German primary schools (Grundschule) or pre-schools, we strongly recommend purchasing AP-certified or EN 71-compliant products to ensure maximum safety.

EU Hazard Pictograms (CLP/GHS)

Under German law (GefStoffV), professional art materials must be labeled with GHS pictograms to communicate risks.

Archival Color Charts & Pigment Data

Professional color selection requires more than a digital preview. We provide high-resolution, hand-painted charts that demonstrate the Masston (full strength) and Ausmischung (glaze/undertone) of our pigments.

Professional Oil Index

Demonstrating drying times and refractive indices of earth colors and mineral cadmiums.

Lightfastness & Permanence (Echtheits-Kategorien)

We classify our pigments according to the strict ASTM D-4303 and the Blue Wool Scale (Wollskala), widely used by German master-manufacturers.

RatingStar SymbolLightfastness (Lichtechtheit)Standard Archival Life
ASTM I★★★★★Highest Lightfastness100+ Years in Museum Quality
ASTM II★★★★Excellent Lightfastness50 – 100 Years
ASTM III★★★Fair / Normal25 – 50 Years (Studio Standard)

Expert Tip: For archival work destined for galleries, we recommend pigments rated exclusively ★★★★ or higher. Fugitive colors (ASTM III/IV) should only be used for preparatory sketches or digital scan-work.

Product Icon Legend

Professional art materials use a standardized symbolic language to communicate the physical behavior of pigments. Use this key to interpret the technical markings on our tubes and packaging.

Opacity & Transparency (Deckkraft)

Transparent

Maximum light transmission. Ideal for glazing and optical color mixing.

Semi-Transparent

Allows partial light transmission. Standard for layering and washes.

Semi-Opaque

Significant covering power with a subtle underlying glow.

Opaque

Complete hide. Total coverage of the substrate or underlying layers.

Pigment Behavior (Pigmenteigenschaften)

Granulating (G)

Pigments that settle into the valleys of the paper, creating a textured, "mottled" effect.

Δ
Staining (St)

High-tinting pigments that penetrate paper fibers, making them difficult to lift or erase.

N
Non-Staining

Pigments that sit on the surface, allowing for easy lifting and highlighting.

Technical Note: Our icons follow the ISO 28711 standards. For brushes, the "Size" icon indicates the diameter of the ferrule in millimeters (mm), ensuring consistent measurements across different handle series.
