Golden Silkscreen Medium: Professional Open-Time Extension for Fine Art Printing
Golden Silkscreen Medium is a specialized water-borne additive designed to transform Golden Acrylic Colors into high-performance screen-printing inks. Engineered specifically for fine art applications on substrates such as paper and wood, this medium significantly extends "open time" to prevent paint from drying within the mesh. Unlike using simple retarders, this medium contains a dedicated acrylic binder that ensures the final print remains durable, flexible, and permanent once cured.
Key Features and Artistic Benefits
- Advanced Screen Workability: Formulated to maintain the fluidity of acrylic pigments during the printing process, drastically reducing the risk of screen clogging and "skinning."
- Integrated Binder System: Contains acrylic solids that form a cohesive film; this ensures that even when heavily diluted, the resulting ink maintains excellent adhesion and film integrity.
- Viscosity Customization: Can be blended with Heavy Body Acrylics for a thick, pasty ink or Fluid Acrylics for a pourable, low-viscosity consistency, depending on the mesh count and substrate requirements.
- Controlled Transparency: Allows for the creation of translucent overlays and subtle glazes by increasing the medium-to-paint ratio, ideal for complex, multi-layered serigraphs.
Application and Usage Guidelines
- Optimal Mixing Ratio: A 1:1 ratio of Silkscreen Medium to Golden Acrylic Paint is a recommended starting point. Increasing the medium will improve workability and transparency, while higher paint concentrations will provide greater opacity.
- Fine Art Substrates Only: This product is strictly designed for use on paper, wood, and other fine art materials. It is not intended for use on apparel or fabrics that will be laundered (for wearable textiles, use Golden Silkscreen Fabric Gel).
- Maximizing Open Time: For long print runs, 5% to 15% Golden Retarder may be added to the mixture. Pre-wetting the screen with a 1:1 water and Retarder solution can further prevent clogs.
- Screen Maintenance: Clogs should be addressed immediately with a damp cloth. Once the acrylic resin dries within the screen mesh, it becomes highly water-resistant and extremely difficult to remove.
